Fiber optic cable comes in different types, their use determine the type to go for.
No matter the distance and load to be carried, there is a fiber cable that suit
the purpose. Fibers are generally categorized either the multimode fiber or the
single mode fiber. While choosing fiber cables, you are advised to choose
wisely, knowing about where it will be used and how, because the choice could
determine how easy the installation will be.
Types Of Fiber Optic Cable
And Uses
Simplex cords
Either for patch cord work or backplane applications the simplex
cord is the best. They could also be used for as low a desktop connections.
With a 3mm jacket they are tightly buffered and have one fiber cable.
Distribution cables
Distribution cables
Due to their sizes, they are used
for small dry conduit applications; they are also used for plenum or riser
applications. They have a lot of tight and well buffered fibers. They have strong
rod reinforcement that helps tightens the fibers together.
Break out cables
The very strong and rugged design
is used primarily for heavy for but short distances. The breakout cables are
very expensive compared the other cabs and are used for short distance
applications.
Loose tube cables
Ideally used for heavy outside plant
trunking applications, this fiber optic cable is made with enough
resistance to water and many fluids. Ideally the type telecommunication
companies use for their underground works to boost the sending and receiving of
their signal.
Ribbon cable
Another cable used for the laying
down deep to the ground, it is coated with a very hard core jacket and prepared
to withstand any hazard.
Armored Cable
This cable is advised for use in
places where rodents pose a challenge, it is made with metal content to prevent
the rodent from entering. It is to be
buried because it is very conductive.
It is worthy of note however, that the types of fiber optic are more
than these here listed. They are produced according to manufacturer’s choice.
They also have various names.
As we have displayed above, it is advised to check for what you want
to do before getting the fiber optic cable that best suits your
purpose.
